Preface
In April 2006, the Shingo Fujii Concert Series began at the elegant venue Art Stage 567 in Kyoto. From the following year, the series continued almost monthly, and in September 2025 it reached its 200th performance.
At first, the programs consisted mainly of original guitar works from the nineteenth century. Gradually, however, I began to include arrangements of pieces originally written for other instruments.
By placing guitar works alongside music from the same period, I hoped to offer the audience a broader and more enriching way to experience these pieces. To hear Giuliani or Sor in the company of Schubert or Schumann, or Tárrega beside Grieg or Granados — such dialogues became a quiet source of joy for me.
In 2013, I began offering my arrangements from each concert to those who wished to receive them. As the months passed, these arrangements—born naturally out of the musical conversations within the series—grew in number, and before I knew it, they had reached nearly one hundred. Every piece included in this volume emerged from that ongoing journey.
This work will continue, gently and steadily, as it always has.
