チャイコフスキー作曲 組曲《くるみ割り人形》より7つの小品
by P. I. Tchaikovsky
arranged for Rosette Guitar Ensemble by Shingo Fujii (2015)
The Suite from The Nutcracker, Op. 71a, drawn from The Nutcracker by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and first performed in 1892, has long been beloved as a concert work. The opening number, “March (Marche),” portrays the Christmas party scene, where the children make their entrance and parade in a bright and spirited procession.
Although set in a regular 2/4 meter, the music avoids the weight of a military march and instead suggests the charm of toy soldiers. The clarity created by the bright principal theme and the light string accompaniment produces the distinctive color and elegance characteristic of Tchaikovsky’s orchestral writing. Despite its brevity, the piece vividly conveys both the festive atmosphere of the celebration and the lively presence of the children through its skillful use of countermelodies and accents.
In the present arrangement, the roles of the individual parts are clearly defined to preserve the lightness and transparency of the original orchestral texture, allowing the contrast between melody and accompaniment to be clearly perceived. In performance, crisp and buoyant staccatos and accents should be emphasized so that the character of the march remains light and playful rather than heavy.
The scoring for alto guitar, four guitars, and bass guitar enables the ensemble to recreate the clarity and brightness of the original orchestral sonority, while ensuring a balanced distribution of melodic and accompanying roles among the parts.
